Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs) bring the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ to the members of the assembly who come forward to receive Jesus during the celebration of the Eucharist. We are called to this ministry by virtue of our baptism. We are asked to carry Jesus into the world. In order to become an EMHC, you must be a registered parishioner of St. Louise de Marillac. You must have received the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation, be a practicing Catholic who lives out their faith and who truly believes that the consecrated bread and wine are the Body and Blood of Christ, and at a minimum of high school age.
If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to the parish office - submit the contact form below or give us a call! New volunteers are required to complete the Archdiocesan safe environment certification requirements before they can serve. Please visit our Safe Environment Training Page to learn more. New EMHCs must attend one training session that usually lasts two hours. Volunteers are encouraged to also complete the free online training module offered through the Archdiocese of Detroit (linked below!)
Once the requirements are verified, our EMHC coordinator will meet with volunteers to answer any additional questions, and to discuss scheduling.
Become certified as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. Learn how to serve your parish community effectively through this sacrament of charity, offering encouragement to others as you share with them Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist.
The Archdiocese of Detroit Office of Sacred Worship offers a free online self-paced formation course for EMHCs!
